Job Summary

This opportunity is open to current PSEG employees only.

The Principal Staff Engineer - Operations is a key team member responsible for assisting with the compilation of all reliability data with regards to Electric Distribution. This position will interact with all divisions extracting, analyzing, and approving reporting data that is reviewed by the Board of Public Utilities (BPU). The Delivery Operations Support team will also interact with other organizations through PSE&G / PSEG including SET to provide required reporting data as needed. This role is key in assisting managing storm restoration time frame metrics “Estimated Time of Restorations (ETR) as required by the BPU.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides support for all required Utility reliability data reporting. Such reports comprise of reliability, regulatory, storm, scorecard, ad hoc, canned (BO) data requests, Power BI, data accuracy/integrity, outage maps, NJOP, notifications, BPU alerts, and project work.

  • Responsible to perform daily and ad hoc operational Utility reporting metrics including PORs, storm reporting, as well as CAIDI, MAIFI, SAIFI, and SAIDI. Provides process and on-site support for systems, applications, and work management processes as it pertains to day-to-day as well as storm restoration activities. Develops and supports reports, queries, and applications that support and provide reporting and reliability information.

  • Responsible for full engagement/involvement – both remotely as well as on-site – for electric system abnormalities including but not limited to small and large storm events. This responsibility includes process and system monitoring as well as all aspects of ad-hoc support for Electric Operations and all internal Enterprise business partners as it pertains to system restoration, customer communications and satisfaction. In partnership with the local operating division, DOS, and Emergency Preparedness, serve as local process and strategy owner of the Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR) process in OMS – both during blue-sky days as well as during storm events and other outages/emergencies.

  • Provides OMS support, managing and coordinating station & circuit designations, manage weather service vendors, UEOC support, planning, staffing estimates for storms, interpreting SIA analysis and coordinate joint storm reporting with PSEG LI.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business.

  • 6+ years’ experience supporting Electric Distribution Operations, OMS/CAD, and storm functions & processes.

Required Competencies:

  • Advanced technical & functional expertise in OMS.

  • Able to interpret OMS, POR data, and other division storm reporting data.

  • Excellent communications, analytical, and data compilation skills.

  • Strong presentation & facilitation skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and compile multiple reports and programs.

  • Ability to work productively with limited management oversight.

  • Incumbent must foster an inclusive work environment and respect all aspects of diversity.

  • Expected to be available 24/7 for on call duties and storm restoration / emergencies as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Masters in Engineering, MBA or Master’s degree or PE Experience Working in Utility (Electric, or Asset Management).

  • Experience with SQL, C#, Python, PowerBi, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
